A New Dining Table and Chair Set the Whole Family Can Enjoy

Families have a way of outgrowing their spaces. Little ones come along who eventually become mini-adults - teenagers - complete with the need for more space to spread out.

Perhaps nowhere is this more true than in the dining area, where the once quaint breakfast table has become too small to hold all the family and the food they consume.

A new dining table and chair set can solve the issue. If your family is busting at the seams at mealtime, a new dining table and chair set can not only improve the dining experience of once cramped family members, but give the room and updated look, something less 1990s and more 21st century.

When shopping for a new dining table and chair set, you really want to take into account your lifestyle. Some families rarely eat at the dining table, except perhaps during the holidays. Others still gather for regular meals, sharing their stories of the day's activities as well as the food on the table.

Either way, you want to choose a set that is comfortable, that offers easy access and which has a table that's large enough to hold the morning, afternoon or evening meal without cramping the space of each diner.

You've been there before, we know. Who hasn't gathered at a table that is simply too small to hold all the dishes that are being served, along with the inevitable beverage glasses, silverware and china. This is most often the case during the major holidays, but if you like to cook, it can be a regular problem at the table year round.

When choosing a new dining table and chair set from best furniture market, you want to think about a few things. First, do you want scalability? In other words, do you want to be able to change the size of the table to suit the occasion. If you do, then a table with one or more leafs will do the trick for you, allowing you to go from seating for four to six, eight or even 12 in no time at all.

If you do plan to squeeze in a few more at mealtime, you want to go with chairs that are a little less grand in scale. Pay particular attention to the width of the chair.

If you add a leaf and two more settings, you don't want the chairs to be too close, or worse, touching. If you are tight on space in general, you may want to forego any dining chairs that have arms as these add a lot of girth to a chair without actually improving the overall dining experience.

The same is true for the depth of the chair. When selecting a new dining table and chair set for your home, think about the chair's pitch. This is the angle of the back of the chair. While you don't want to go with chairs that have a 45-degree angle to the seat and back, you also don't want to get an extra "slopey" chair if you have a smaller dining space.

Also, chairs that slope a lot might not be any more comfortable for your guests than a chair that is a little straighter and offers even better support for the back and posterior.

Finally, when choosing a new dining table and chair set, you want to think about upholstery. Upholstered chairs can be more comfortable, especially if your family likes to sit at the table for hours on end.

But they can be a little harder to keep clean, especially if you have young children who are still in the "experimental" stages when they are at the table. Chairs without upholstery can be easier to keep clean, though modern stain-resistant fabrics certainly give them a run for their money.
